Matriculation and matriculants

Following Mrs Pitt’s abolition of the prefect system – an experiment that is not a great success – the equal status for all matrics is retained while at the same time a system of matric councillors is introduced.

Girls who attain academic honours are now given the same accolades as those who achieve sporting honours, and co-incidentally the number of subject distinctions rises; the school writes the Joint Matriculation Board examinations and distinctions are not easy to come by. In 1983, the school receives a prize for the best overall English matric results, shares the top prize in a school magazine creative writing competition, wins eight awards for Drama, and several girls excel in English, Science and History Olympiads and competitions.
