Construction continues at the school

Despite the ructions in the country, all is quiet at St Mary’s, metaphorically speaking. A new building construction is in fact shattering the peace, as an upper storey is added to the school’s new wing. Patricia Matthews, in Form IV, writes: “Lessons during that term of building took on an exceptional form. That part of school was like a battlefield, the two armies being formed by the pupils below and the builders above. Our generals, the teachers, had much to contend with in trying to make their voices heard above the movement of the opposition at work overhead. We seemed to be fighting a losing battle. “

Other additions include a tuck shop, opened by the parents, and a hall and two new classrooms added to the Junior School.
