Awarding sporting excellence

In 1970, the first white blazers for sporting excellence are awarded and the first two recipients are Georgina Lawrie and Gillian Norman-Smith. Georgina’s sporting career in South Africa is blighted by the country’s exclusion from almost every international sporting event and she eventually moves to the United States where she is able to pursue her diving. In all likelihood, she would have represented South Africa in the Olympic Games.
