Swimming

As anticipated, the season has gotten off to a flying start. I would like to commend all the girls who took advantage of the holiday training sessions, it was great to see so many of you getting an early start to your fitness.
We have swum in two galas, one at St Dominic’s where we swam as a red, white and blue teams. It was good to see the level of swimmers in other schools’ teams. We were certainly not exceptional but have been training hard and there were some good swims.
On Saturday 27 January, we swam in our own annual Summer Splash gala. Unfortunately, the schools who have water polo teams had to swim sans their 1st team polo players as they were at the Kingswood tournament in Makhanda. It was an extremely exciting gala with the lead rotating and changing between St Andrew’s, St Stithians and St Mary’s for all 33 races. One can see by the final results just how close it was.

The U16 water polo team took part in the Summer Splash. Sadly, their event was marred by lightning and there needed to be some re-scheduling. They were a young inexperienced group of players who tried hard in every game. The vast majority of these players will still be U16 next year and hopefully we will see the lessons learned playing themselves out.
