Basketball
Final fixtures were played against Sacred Heart College and Helpmekaar. There were mixed results against differing levels of opposition, nevertheless the matches were played in good spirit and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
Our U16 team participated in the St Stithians Tournament from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 February. Our team put on impressive performances - some of the best St Mary’s has seen in several years. Our girls played good, structured basketball. Their understanding of the game improved and along with this so did their performances. Not only this, but our players were a pleasure to coach! They displayed a willingness to learn, good sportsmanship and loyalty towards their team.
The team played six matches in total, losing only one, to finish fifth overall.
Our senior team followed the example set by the U16’s and had an outstanding showing in The Old Pets Tournament over half–term. It was wonderful to see this team come together and end the season on such a high note. Different combinations were able to apply consistent pressure to top schoolgirl teams in the country. It was a pleasure to watch the comradery, new friendships developing and a happy team playing to the best of their ability. Thank you to the matrics for their contribution to basketball. They will leave a positive legacy behind!
The senior team finished 6th overall out of 18 teams, losing to Holy Rosary by only one point in the plate final.
We look forward to watching our players progress in the future. If the girls remain committed and continue to perform at this level, basketball is in good hands at St Mary’s.
A heartfelt thank you must also go to our coaches. Thank you for willingly giving of your time to support and teach our girls. The players have come such a long way, and this is attributed to your commitment and your passion!
Thank you!
