Purple, or perhaps more apt to say RED patch

Sport is pretty much as unpredictable as the weather. How often does the favourite faulter or the underdog hit a purple patch. It is my opinion that when the stars align you accept what comes your way and be grateful. This is exactly what has transpired in the last couple of weeks. Not only did we win the Premier and A galas, but a feat also which we are not sure has ever been achieved by any other school before. Not to be outdone, the St Mary’s Junior School went one better and won the triple crown. They won the A, B and C junior Prestige galas. Suffice it to say, all went swimmingly!

The divers then acquitted themselves well at their inter-high and took second place. This effort saw St Mary’s win the Overall Shield for the team with the highest score from the swimming and the diving.

On the tennis courts the A team won the Premier league for the fifth time in a row, but they then went on to win the Senior A inter-high event for the second year in a row. This is an excellent achievement as 24 schools compete in this event. The St Mary’s B team also did well and came a close second in the B inter-high event.

The rowers have been working exceptionally hard all term. The long hours at both the dam and the ergo room have paid off as after three hot and grueling days at Roodeplaat over the weekend, they were announced girl winners of the South African Schools Rowing Championships. What a wonderful achievement.

I think that Mia Hamm’s quote is vital for us to note and not let complacency set in: “It is more difficult to stay on top than it is to get there.”
