The much-anticipated musical, Naledi, opened on Wednesday night. It is a triumph for all involved and a special experience for the audience.

The production is a collaboration of an original score by South African composer Franco Prinsloo and the adaptation for stage of an African myth and legend by head of drama at St Mary’s, Klaus-Louis Jansen van Vuuren. Dudley Trollope, our director of music, directed the rich tapestry of music for this production, which displays the talent of our choral voices.

The creative team has spent months crafting the musical and the cast have worked hard to deliver a beautiful and professional production. I extend my congratulations to our staff on the creative team: Klaus-Louis Jansen van Vuuren, Dudley Trollope, Jodi Hanson, Sasha Ehlers, Dani Cooper, Danielle Mowatt, Emily Dingle and Joshua Molotsi. The cast of St Mary’s girls are phenomenal and deserve the highest praise.

This is a magical theatrical experience, the likes of which were last seen on St Mary’s stage 10 years ago, and I encourage the community to attend the final performances next week. Prior to the performance the audience is invited to enjoy the art exhibition.
