Teachers spend the final days of a school year reviewing the progress and development of students in both their studies and personal development - this is a rewarding process. These areas of potential growth inform curriculum and all aspects of a school’s programme. A time of review is vital in shaping our thinking and planning for the next year.

The end of the school year signals a time of rest and relaxation for our community. It is also infused with expectations and anticipation for academic results and the future they predict. Academic achievement is prioritised at school as the key to future success but equally important is character and values. The challenges of our current national and global context create unease about the future that awaits our students, but what we know is that they will leave our school with both a sound academic skill set and Christian values and beliefs which will equip them to deal confidently with the ups and downs of life. They will also know how important it is to tend to their own personal development and to the well-being of others as they seek good and meaningful lives.

The final days of our school schedule are also filled with farewells. It is never easy to say farewell to students and teachers, however much this is part of the school cycle. Our gratitude and best wishes go to all the individuals who have made a contribution to our school.

What remains is to wish the St Mary’s community a happy holiday and a blessed Christmas. Ukuthula akwande – may the peace of Christ be abundant in your hearts.
