Message from the chaplain: 20 September 2019

Claudia Coustas

Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.”

So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them[.]
− Genesis 1:26-27a (NRSV)

Bishop Steve Moreo, in his pastoral letter to the diocese (available on our app), refers to the image of God within each of us. Given recent events in our country – the xenophobic violence and looting, and the gender-based violence that has come to a head – it is important for us to spend time reflecting on the image of the divine within each of us. Each person is created, holy, set apart, to be bearers of God’s image. Let us treat one another as sacred therefore, as part of our worship due to God and as a gift received with awe from our loving God.
