The St Mary’s basketball team was fortunate enough to participate in the St Peter’s College Basketball Tournament this past weekend. The first day of the tournament was a bit challenging where we lost 22-8 to Norkem Park High. We were able to redeem ourselves against Edenvale High School where we won 30-10. On Saturday, we played Waterford and won and then played the much-anticipated Michael Mount.

Our game against Michael Mount was tough and, even though we lost, the girls played hard and made St Mary’s extremely proud. The last day of the tournament was very impressive. We won three matches and lost the fourth to eventual tournament winners, Michael Mount.

The team played with perseverance and determination and the girls are commended on their sportsmanship. The St Mary’s team finished fourth overall, which was a wonderful result for a new team. They can be very proud of themselves. None of this would have been possible were it not for our coaches, Miss de Winnaar and Miss Letsoalo. Their passion inspired us to keep pushing ourselves and resulted in our “die hard attitudes.”

The tournament was a wonderful start to the season.
