Derby Day with Durban Girls’ College – Saturday 14 May

Over this past weekend, students from Durban Girls’ College braced the infamous Highveld cold for what turned out to be an incredible day of culturals, sports and fun!
The Durban girls arrived on Friday afternoon and were introduced to the St Mary’s spirit and hospitality when we welcomed them. They met the girls and families who were to host them for next two days.
Early on Saturday morning, both the St Mary’s and Durban Girls’ College girls arrived at school ready to begin their various sporting and cultural activities. The girls were treated to performances of the incredible St Mary’s FEDA plays and in true St Mary’s style, an exemplary display of hockey. Owing to the inclement weather, netball was played on the in-door basketball court, the tennis girls had fun on the squash courts and, luckily for squash being an in-door game, all their matches went ahead as scheduled.
Voted the most popular event at the end of the day – Slam poetry.
Despite the bitter cold weather, all girls enjoyed an amazing day of fun, new friendships were forged and old ones rekindled.
