Daniëlle in top five of Afrikaans Olympiad

The annual Senior Afrikaans Olympiad for First Additional Language was written in May this year, with 29 of our Forms IV and V girls participating and taking on the challenge of applying their language skills at provincial and national levels.
We are proud of Daniëlle van der Watt whose result in the Olympiad was ranked in the top five students in Gauteng. Daniëlle achieved 91% in the Olympiad. This is an exceptional achievement and a wonderful exhibition of language skills and understanding. Other students who achieved excellent distinctions in this year’s Olympiad are Simone Batchelor (85%), Julia Huysamer (82%) and Frances van der Walt (80%).

All Form III, IV and V students studying Afrikaans First Additional Language, irrespective of their home languages, may enter the Senior Olympiad at First Additional Language level. The focus of the examination is on comprehension, grammar, poetry and literature skills. I look forward to seeing more of our senior girls availing themselves of the opportunity to show off their skills next year. Entries close in February 2017 and the examination will again take place in May, shortly after the April holidays.
