Amphibians
Even though we have tadpoles changing into froglets in the lab, the Grade 4s were delighted to finally have a live adult amphibian to observe! It’s been a long wait for some enthusiastic herpetologists! They have studied this vertebrate class, with particular emphasis on the characteristics of naked skin and “double life”, but seeing it in real life was a treat! Because our country is water scarce, we have 132 amphibian species only. The girls were introduced to eight species found in the savanna biome and they have already chosen and researched one of the species. This visitor presented the opportunity to make a fact sheet, which began after much discussion.
