Rowing:

Term III has been a busy term for the club!

“Rowing provided a place to go, a community where people cared about what I did and what I achieved.” Nancy Greene

On Sunday 19 September, the St Mary’s rowing club held the annual rowing open day. The turnout was great. We had Grade 7s from many schools and a few current St Mary’s girls attend. Everyone had an opportunity to row in the dam, accompanied by our older members, and experience the rowing atmosphere. There were speeches made by previous St Mary’s rowers and by our captains. We are so excited to welcome our new girls into the club!

After months of hard work, the St Mary’s rowing club has obtained a new and improved shed! We took ownership of the St Andrew’s old shed and conjoined our shed with theirs. The shed has more space for our fleet and better facilities for our equipment. The space is easy to use. We are excited to have moved in time for the racing season. Thank you to everyone who was involved and who helped in the process!

Over the past weekend, the first regatta of the new season was held at Homestead Dam. The event was a match race, knock-out regatta with heat races, semi-finals and finals on a curved course. St Mary’s competed in all boat classes with U15s, U16s and U19s involved. Great results were achieved, with St Mary’s winning many of the various finals. The regatta was a good start to the racing season and it was great to be back on the water competing. The club is excited for the upcoming races and the rest of the season.

“A race is not won in the water. A race is not won on race day, instead a race is to show what you have accomplished in practice.” – Unknown
