Debating

Debating is an exciting and open discipline which teaches the girls to express themselves formally in a logical and persuasive manner. It exposes the girls to relevant local and international events, and trains them to analyse topics and to give well-formed opinions on fundamental issues. Even though it is very demanding, our teams tackle every complex debate and challenge ferociously, which is evident in the early success we enjoyed at the SACEE league.
This year, the Senior School team selected a few Grade 7s to join the debating team. The girls spoke with flair and great confidence against teams that included mainly Form II pupils. Of the first three rounds, Kgaugelo Makgato reflected “winning means I’m doing something right but losing is also a good experience because I realise that there’s room for improvement”.
The next SACEE Junior rounds will be on Saturday 14 March at Jeppe Boys.

On Saturday 22 February, three Grade 7s, Kgaugelo Makgato, Bemnet Worku and I, participated in a debating competition. The competition took place at St David’s. We started at around 09h00 and ended at about 14h45. We competed with two Form II girls and each of us was given a chance to be the second speaker. We debated a variety of motions. We all agreed that we learnt a considerable amount about debating and we are extremely excited about our next competition on Saturday 14 March at Jeppe Boy’s High School.
