St Mary’s DSG, Pretoria 1st and U15 tournament

On Saturday 7 March, our 1st and U15 basketball teams participated in a tournament hosted by St Mary’s DSG, Pretoria.

Both teams played two pool matches each, followed by cross pool playoffs and, ultimately, their respective finals.

Our teams had a successful day, winning their pool matches as well as their cross-pool playoffs. The 1st team played some excellent basketball in the final but ultimately lost by one basket, two points, to a strong team, St Mary’s DSG, Pretoria. The team has worked hard during their time together. They have developed a strong sense of teamwork and a fighting spirit which has allowed them to end their season on a very high note.

The U15 team has had a remarkable season. They have won all their league matches, placed second in the Crawford Sandton Tournament and won the U15 section in Pretoria. Their skills have improved tremendously, as has their understanding of the game. This age group, along with the U16 age group, have considerable potential and we believe that they will continue to take basketball to new heights at St Mary’s.

Most of our U14 players only began playing basketball this year. Their interest and excitement were noticeable from the start. Their enthusiasm and willingness to learn have enabled this group to show great improvement and we are looking forward to watching them progress in the future.

Credit must go to our coaches. Their commitment, professionalism, belief in the players and their expertise have contributed to our recent success.
