Equestrian

St Mary’s has since 2003 had a vibrant team of girls from all grades who participate in the equestrian schools’ league.

The South African National Equestrian Schools Association (SANESA) is an inter-school sports association that falls under the Department of Basic Education, and is recognised by both the South African Equestrian Federation and the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee.

Qualifying competitions take place throughout the year, at which points are accumulated for the school. Riders participate in qualifying rounds before being selected to ride at the regional qualifier, where they can be selected to ride for their province.

Competitions take place at Eaton Farm and Kyalami Equestrian Park, and include a variety of disciplines, including dressage, equitation, show jumping, a variety of showing classes, eventing, endurance, vaulting, mounted games, Western riding and saddle seat, to name a few.

The girls ride individually at various stable yards, and the school supports those who participate at SANESA. Our girls are very competitive and consistently place highly in the league.

Girls are also encouraged to ride in competitions outside of the schools’ league, and are acknowledged for achievements in these endeavours.
