Basketball

Basketball has grown rapidly in the Senior School. At present, we have teams in every age group, which are eligible to play matches on Wednesday afternoons. We participate in a newly formed girls’ league that includes many schools from around Johannesburg and some from Pretoria. Matches are played in the first and third terms. Also included in this league are tournaments for each age group.

We host our own St Mary’s Summer Shoot Out in the third term. This tournament includes U16 and senior sections and is always a great success. The 1st team competes annually in the Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School tournament, the Old Petrians Tournament in Term I and the St Peter’s Festival in Term III. Teams from across South Africa and neighbouring countries compete in these events - they are major highlights of the schoolgirl basketball season.
