A school educating girls
Established in 1888, St Mary’s School, Waverley, is Johannesburg’s oldest school. It is an independent school with a proud tradition of developing impressive young women who make their mark in the arts, sciences, business, politics, the media and sport.
The St Mary’s Foundation works hard to ensure that St Mary’s girls have everything they need to enjoy a top-class education.
St Mary’s educational philosophy guides all organs of the school, including the Foundation.
The Foundation’s memorandum of incorporation states that its business is “to raise and provide funds and assets for the school solely, such to include the provision of bursaries”.
An imperative of the Foundation, as stated in its Charter, is the establishment of a “permanent endowment of significance to ensure that St Mary’s remains at the pinnacle of academic, cultural and sporting achievement”.
The St Mary’s Foundation is a non-profit company set up in 2007 to achieve the above objectives. It also has public benefit organisation status to issue section 18A tax certificates.
