Investec Rhino Lifeline
Funds raised for the rhino at the 2019 St Mary’s Investec Hockey Festival.
This year, 2019, was the seveth year of our support for rhinos. At the beginning of the 2018 festival, we had contributed R446 620.50 to this worthy cause. Our target this year was to be in close reach of the million mark. St Mary’s, along with the St Mary's community, competing schools, spectators, etc. raised a staggering R170 000 through the sales of raffles and various other such activities. Investec Rhino Lifeline then matched that amount, resulting in a total of R340 000 being raised - the single largest amount raised to date. Thank you to the entire hockey festival community and to the Mala Mala, Mashatu, Kapama and Nambiti Game Reserves for the generous prizes given to the Rhino raffle.
All money raised is donated to the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC). HESC is home to several rhino orphaned and / or injured in the Kruger National Park and surrounding reserves in the Limpopo province. This centre is recognised as one of the leaders in the research, treatment and breeding of endangered species.
