Investec Rhino Lifeline
Funds raised for the rhino at the 2018 St Mary’s Investec Hockey Festival.
This year, 2018, was the sixth year of our support for rhinos. At the beginning of the 2018 festival, we had contributed R258 135.00 to this worthy cause. Our target this year was to reach R300 000. We asked all attending the festival - players, coaches, entire participating schools, supporters, etc. to please donate a “Rhi-note” (South African R10 bank note). On top of this, for every goal scored at the 2018 festival, Investec pledged to donate R200. A total of 287 goals were scored, and along with other fund-raising initiatives, over R170 000 was raised to help the country’s endangered rhino population. Not only did we reach our target, we exceeded it. Thank you to the entire hockey festival community and to the Mala Mala, Mashatu and Kapama Game Reserves for the generous prizes given to the Rhino raffle.
All money raised is donated to the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC). HESC is home to several rhino orphaned and / or injured in the Kruger National Park and surrounding reserves in the Limpopo province. This centre is recognised as one of the leaders in the research, treatment and breeding of endangered species.
