The SANESA National Championships were held at Misty Meadows, at the beginning of October. Despite the very dry, hot and windy conditions, St Mary’s had some excellent results. Nationals was very well attended by schools from all over the country and covered all disciplines, including Western Riding, Endurance, Vaulting, Dressage, Show Jumping, Equitation, Showing, Eventing and Stadium Eventing.

There were a few St Mary’s girls who could not compete at the SANESA National Championships owing to various reasons, including injured horse, injured rider or matric commitments.

Congratulations to all the girls who represented Gauteng, including Nicola Berlin, Margaret Tucker, Caitlin Wheeler, Lia Wheeler and a very special mention to Jessica Eekhout, who took time out of her matric studies to represent Gauteng.

Notable results were as follows:

Caitlin Wheeler – placed 1st in Level 7 Working Hunter, 3rd in Level 7 Performance Riding and 1st in Level 5 Dressage
Lia Wheeler – placed 3rd  in Level 5 Working Riding

Jessica Eekhout, Margaret Tucker and Nicola Berlin also achieved excellent results, and are commended on their achievements.

It has been a really successful year, with fantastic results: St Mary’s placed 1st in Joburg Metro and 7th in Gauteng, and Caitlin Wheeler individually placed 10th in Joburg Metro. I am sure that St Mary’s will continue its great success in the coming year, led by our 2017 captain and vice-captain, Caitlin and Margaret.
