Parent/Teacher Association

The St Mary’s PTA forms a vital bridge between parents and the school. The PTA endeavours to:

  • Establish and maintain channels of communication between parents in both the Junior and Senior Schools through the representation of the Junior and Senior School convenors, who co-ordinate the activities of the “class moms”
  • Represent the parents on key St Mary’s bodies such as the Board and Foundation
  • Facilitate community-building events

PTA members are nominated and elected on an annual basis, with the AGM usually scheduled during January. New nominations for and participation on the PTA committees are welcome.

The St Mary’s Rose

MySchool Card is a Woolworths initiative that provides a significant benefit to the school, through a percentage of expenditure being routed back to the school. Parents, grandparents and supporters can all contribute to this without any effort on their part by simply showing their MySchool Card at certain suppliers.

St Mary’s Rose was propagated to celebrate the school’s 120th birthday. This has proven to be popular, both as a part of St Mary’s School in gardens and as a gift. The rose is a red hybrid tea that produces an abundance of medium- to long-stemmed, shapely blooms in bright velvet red.

HOPE – Hearing Other People’s Experiences. HOPE’s focus is on the St Mary’s parent community because what happens at home affects our children at school.  Interested parents come together with the aim of engaging each other in experiences around diversity.

Club 100 is very succesful in raising funds for the PTA, while giving parents a chance to get some of their school fees paid. Parents contribute to Club 100 on a termly basis and stand a chance of winning 100% of their next term’s fees, paid by the PTA. There is a second and third prize that pays 20% and 10% respectively. The cost of the Club 100 is R200 per child, per term and is a voluntary contribution.

Annual events:

The PTA is instrumental in organising a number of exciting and fun-filled activities each year. This year the PTA will host the Golf Day, Battle of the Bands and the Junior School fun day. In the spirit of building the St Mary’s community, the PTA will also be arranging smaller events for teachers, parents and pupils to connect with one another.
