The Current Affairs Club aims to broaden the world view of our students by engaging with a range of human interest topics. In this way, the girls are encouraged to think about and question relevant issues from both our recent past and current events. The Club provides the space for students to go beyond the narrow aspects of the school curriculum. It also enables them to go out into the world as responsible and sentient beings who are capable of making clear moral decisions.
One of the aspects of the club is that we invite guest speakers who both entertain and enlighten us. The highlight of last year was a fabulous talk by Patricia Glyn, who took us with her on her journey through Africa in the footsteps of her ancestors. At other times, the Club watches movies, often with a political theme, as well as documentaries on current issues. These are often consciousness-raising and are followed by thought-provoking discussions.
We encourage all girls who are interested in world issues and in broadening their minds to attend.
