School-based activities (no cost involved)

  • Arts and crafts
During this session the girls have the opportunity to express themselves creatively in a stimulating and relaxed environment. Individuality is encouraged and various media are used. Examples of activities include origami, painting, beading, mosaics and collages. This is on a first come first serve basis (20 max). Please sign up on list on Junior Primary notice board.
  • Chess
Girls from Grade1 to Grade 3 who would like to learn chess are most welcome to attend. We also have more advanced players and the girls play a friendly match against another school once a term.
  • Thinkers’ Club
Thinkers’ Club is a group that meets weekly in Grade 3M. Its aim is to encourage the girls to use their minds in creative ways by playing various games. Some of these encourage conceptual thought and strategy (eg. Monopoly and Shipwreck), some encourage quick recall (e.g. Pass the Bomb) and others need analytical logic (eg. Master Mind). We also do some physical activities where some thought is required. A Scavenger Hunt would be a good example here. When time permits we also play word games such as “I Spy” or “20 Questions”.
  • Beading
This will be a fun opportunity for the girls to learn different beading techniques and create their own jewellery and other items. Maximum number of children is 12. Sign up on list on Junior Primary notice board
  • Grade 2 Music
These are 30 minute compulsory timeslots where children are exposed to instruments in group lessons, free of charge.

Privately-run activities (cost involved)

  • Kumon
Kumon helps children to grow and improve their skills in both mathematics and English. Please contact Mrs Channon on 083 325 3884 or 011 481 5863.
  • Pottery
Pottery is a fun extra-curricular activity that develops creativity and fine motor co-ordination. The techniques of pinching, modelling and slab making are covered and a variety of objects are made. Girls also have the opportunity to decorate their items and take them home. Contact Mrs Heydenrych 011 728 6791
  • Ballet
Children are prepared in Grades 0 and 1 for the Pre-Primary and Primary Presentation Class in the Royal Ballet Academy of Dance. The girls in Grade 2 and up are prepared for graded examinations in the Royal Academic of Dance. Children also participate in The Concours ballet. They are also prepared for the badge tests which are conducted by the National Society of Dance Teachers. Contact Mrs Jane Pick 083 261 4732
  • Drama
Creative Drama is a fun and relaxing class where the girls can explore their imagination through creative play. Drama helps to boost self-confidence and promotes good group work skills. Lessons are R350 per term for Grade 1 to 3. A term’s notice is required if you wish to discontinue lessons. Contact Mrs Ros Wood-Morris 083 258 7305.

We have been embraced by psychologists, child life care specialists, teachers, counsellors, parents and most importantly children. Children learn the empowering techniques of progressive muscular relaxation, breathing, visualizations, and affirmations in a safe, fun and interactive environment. Each class is structured with Movement, Explanation, Story time/Lesson, Discussion, Art activity, Rainbow Bear: This cuddly bear is used to encourage children to use their stress management relaxations skills outside of the classroom. Rainbow Bear activities are incorporated into each lesson, Exit: Affirmations will be introduced during the second class and will be used thereafter as an exit tool for the rest of the semester. Each child picks an affirmation from the class affirmation bowl as they leave the classroom. Certificate of Completion: Hand out to students for completing the course.
