St Mary’s has a fine tradition of excellence in sport. Our wonderful facilities (which include Astroturf and grass hockey fields, 4 squash courts, 8 tennis courts, 4 netball courts and a swimming pool with 1m and 3m diving boards), our experienced P.E. and coaching staff and our outstanding results are the envy of many schools. |
| The girls at St Mary’s Junior School enjoy active participation in many competitive sports and non-competitive activities. Every girl is given the opportunity to play team sport at inter-house and inter-schools levels. We are proud of the fact that every girl represents her house in all of the inter-house competitions and that over 90% of our girls in the Senior Primary phase play in at least one sports team in inter-schools events. Ten girls represented Gauteng at inter-provincial competitions (swimming, hockey, squash, tennis and equestrian events) last year. |

At Junior Primary level the girls attend an hour of P.E. twice a week where they are taught ball skills, educational gymnastics (where they improve muscle tone and co-ordination) and swimming. They may also choose to do several afternoon activities. The Senior Primary girls have an hour of P.E. twice a week where they do games or swimming and half an hour of educational gymnastics, dance or ball skills. There is a wide range of competitive and non-competitive afternoon activities for the Senior Primary girls. |
