The Sandton Bus serves families who live in the suburbs to the north of the School. This is a volunteer service, which was started by the parents in 1988. We hire a 60-seater bus from Megabus and Coach. Swartland, who has been the driver for the last 21 years, is a careful and experienced driver, and an essential part of the successful operation of the bus service.
BUS ROUTE AND TIMETABLE
The service offers three buses per day, one in the morning and two in the afternoon. The morning bus starts from Kyalami, travels through Sunninghill, Rivonia, River Club, Parkmore, Sandhurst, Illovo past St David's Marist Inanda, St Mary's School Waverley to KES and St John's College. All afternoon buses leave from St John's College, past KES and on to Burn Street outside St Mary's School, stopping at the corner of Boundary Road and 1st Avenue at St David's Marist, Inanda. The bus then travels through Illovo, Sandhurst, Parkmore, River Club, Rivonia and Gallo Manor, returning along Bowling Avenue to St Mary's for the next trip. The last bus of the day returns through Sunninghill to Kyalami.
BUS DISCS AND COSTS
All pupils wishing to use the bus must complete an application form and present the driver with an annual bus disc or a casual ticket. The following options are available:

Payment must be made per term, in advance, by direct deposit into our bank account (see Application Form) or in the form of three post-dated cheques dated for the first day of each term. Lost discs may be replaced at a cost of R20 each.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
•1) The bus displays the St Mary's School Badge on the door.
•2) Swartland is in contact with Mega Bus and Coach via two-way radio and cellphone, so we are able to contact him at all times.
•3) If your child misses the afternoon bus, he/she may catch the next bus or be fetched from school.
•4) In the interests of your child's safety we cannot emphasize enough the importance of getting to the appropriate bus stop on time. The driver has instructions to return all Grade 0 to Grade 3 pupils to the school if there is no one to collect them at the bus stop. Older pupils may also stay on the bus should you wish them to do so, but this must be an arrangement between you and your child. Please be sure your child is aware of your emergency arrangements in case you are not available to fetch them.
•5) Swartland is in charge of pupils on the bus and they are to listen to his instructions at all times, especially in the case of a breakdown. Children are required to remain seated at all times while the bus is in motion. The pupils sit on the bus in order of their school Grades: the youngest pupils sit at the front of the bus and the matrics sit at the back.
LOST PROPERTY
Swartland will keep lost property left on the bus to be collected the next morning. Anything not collected will be returned to the respective school lost office.
