Starting a new school can be a daunting prospect for many pupils. It is therefore essential that new pupils to St Mary’s School settle down and feel at home as soon as possible. Both staff and pupils make it a priority to provide the new girls with assistance and reassurance as they are integrated into the St Mary’s community.
Senior School
All new Form I pupils and their parents are invited to a welcoming function in the November of their Grade 7 year. On this occasion the girls are entertained by the Form Vs while their parents are hosted by the Headmistress and senior staff members.
On the day prior to the start of the new school year all Form Is and their parents attend an Orientation Day. There are talks by the Headmistress, the Deputy Head, the Directors of Culture and Sport, the Head of Form I, as well as the School Psychologist. Activities include tours of the campus, opportunities to meet with Form and Subject Teachers. Each new girl is assigned to a Senior pupil who will be her buddy for the year. Various buddy events are arranged throughout the year.
