Chapel

St Mary’s is an Anglican school. The Chapel is a place that offers peace and serenity for anyone who enters. It is also a place of safety for all in need. Every day, the Angelus is rung at 12h25, resulting in every girl and teacher taking a moment from her busy life and standing in silence.

Each week, girls in the Senior School attend a Chapel assembly led by Rev Gill Lee where various aspects of the Christian faith are presented. Holy Communion is celebrated two or three times a term. A highlight of the second term is the School’s Patronal Festival, celebrated in the Close with the whole School. Girls who are 16 or older may be prepared for Confirmation which is taken by the Bishop of Johannesburg.

In the Junior School, Senior Primary girls attend Chapel on Wednesdays and Junior Primary on Fridays. Holy Communion is celebrated at the beginning and end of term and there are special services for Mothers’ and Fathers’ Days. Girls may also be baptised or admitted to Holy Communion.

Each morning from 07h00 to 07h10 and on Mondays at second break, a few members of staff meet to pray for the School. A Bible Study for Mums has recently been started and meets on Monday mornings from 07h30 to 08h30 in SMOGS. Anyone is welcome to join us.
